Dear Fashion, it’s vaccination time …

Let’s start with a quote, which I find incredibly fitting in these current times we are living in.

“Sweatpants are a sign of defeat.”

That was only one of many sharp and bold phrases of Karl Lagerfeld, the King of Fashion, a man always ahead of his time, and just an incredible great observer.

He preferred to look than to be looked at, hence he wore always his sunglasses and his hair tied back into a very tight ponytail to set his view free.

This man, who left us not only with bold and catchy phrases but with a legacy through his so accurate observations.

But he couldn’t have been more to the point with this statement than now.

I am sure many of us spent the last month and year sitting at home, working from home in sweatpants.

So, here comes the question, why should we bother with fashion when we are not going out there and are anyway not seen by those who we want to impress with our looks?

If we don’t have to move far from bed anymore to start our work meetings, why even bother throwing on some decent pants or some jeans?

This takes us immediately to what fashion means and why wearing always sweatpants shouldn’t become our custom.

Actually, what is this even about some having ‘clothes for walking’ and ‘clothes for going out?

There is no reason to have ugly old clothes to go to the supermarket, to walk around the neighborhood, to go to the pharmacy, or to do shopping. Or am I wrong?

Should we not always try to look our best?

Seems like we are becoming that comfortable behind our screens that we don’t see it necessary anymore to take even care of ourselves. Fashion shouldn’t be seen as an effort, it should come with us acknowledging first that we love ourselves and create an image, which we deserve and are happy with. Especially in those times, we need to seek what lifts our spirits and appreciate more ourselves and what we have locked in and outside our closets.

After all, times of confinement due to this pandemic inspired us to make changes in our lives and spend time discovering new aspects that we did not know. And we can be surprised to realize that one can live enjoying new pleasures, as simply taking care of ourselves, making up our style. In the end, this will be a sweet and very human reward to weigh the sadness of the times that we are witnessing.
